Assam CM Sonowal celebrates Bhogali Bihu at Dibrugarh

GURUTTOPURNA:  Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Thursday morning celebrated Bhogali Bihu at his home town—Dibrugarh.

Sonowal lit the Meji, a thatch-and-bamboo structure which is consigned to flames early morning on the Bihu day as homage to Agni, the fire god.

CM Sonowal was joined by some of his colleagues and friends.

“Let the fire of Meji make an end of all the evils and bring new hopes, enthusiasm, joy, prosperity and good health the society,” Sonowal said.

Meanwhile, North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) convenor and Assam health, finance, education minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma conveyed his greetings to the people of the state on the occasion of Magh Bihu.

Taking to Twitter, minister Sarma wished joy and prosperity for everyone of the state. 

“May the fire of Magh Bihu warm everyone’s heart with amity and purity, may everyone be blessed with joy and prosperity. I extend my heartfelt wishes to all on the occasion of Bhogali Bihu and Makar Sankranti,” Dr. Sarma wrote.
